On 7 February 2027, Editors take the stage at the Zenith in Munich. For the first time since 2022, the British band is heading out on a larger German tour, with five concerts announced for February. They bring their new studio album “Surface, Echo & Sound”, released on 30 October 2026. Big Sleep from Dublin open the evening.
From “Munich” to “EBM”
Editors came together in 2002 and grew into one of the most successful British post-punk bands of the 2000s. Their debut “The Back Room” came out in 2005 and produced “Munich”, a song that has long been among their best known. The album was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2006.
With “An End Has a Start” (2007) and “In This Light and on This Evening” (2009), Editors each reached number one on the UK albums chart. While the early releases were shaped by angular guitars, driving basslines and Tom Smith's distinctive baritone, synthesizers and electronic elements moved increasingly to the fore over the years.
That became especially clear on “EBM” in 2022. Developed together with Benjamin John Power, the album combined the typical Editors sound with electronic dance music and industrial soundscapes.
Back to playing together
With their eighth studio album “Surface, Echo & Sound”, Editors now take a different direction. Instead of large electronic arrangements, guitars, acoustic instruments and the direct interplay of the musicians are back in the foreground.
The new songs were written in the summer of 2025 in Gloucestershire. Unlike on their more electronic predecessors, the band worked on the arrangements together in one room.
The first taste came in April 2026 with the single “Call It In”. The song deals with the search for closeness and support in an increasingly loud and unsettling world. Guitarist Justin Lockey directed the accompanying music video himself.
“The Rush” followed in June as another herald of the album. The song combines catchy melodies with acoustic elements and shows a warmer, less electronic side of Editors. A mandolin also finds its place on the new album.
The band's typical melancholy has not disappeared. On “Surface, Echo & Sound”, however, it gets a different musical frame.
Big Sleep open the evening
Big Sleep from Dublin join the tour as support. The four-piece moves between indie rock, alternative and psychedelic influences. Their debut album “Holy Show” came out in early 2026, on which the Irish band combines atmospheric passages with melodic guitars and catchy choruses.
At the Zenith, visitors can look forward to an evening on which Editors present their new material as well as the familiar songs from more than two decades of band history. And with “Munich”, they have a song in their repertoire that fits the venue especially well that night.
