The Last Internationale - Munich

On 17 November, The Last Internationale come to the Hansa 39. I'm already looking forward to this night: loud guitars, Delila Paz on the mic and a club where you're right in the middle of the action.

Delila Paz and guitarist Edgey Pires form the core of the New York band. Their sound blends blues, soul and alternative rock; their lyrics deal with social inequality, resistance and war. These themes have run through their music since their earliest releases.

Tom Morello was one of their first prominent supporters. He introduced the two of them to his Rage Against The Machine bandmate Brad Wilk, who played drums on their 2014 major-label debut "We Will Reign", produced by Brendan O'Brien, and then toured with the band. Shows with Robert Plant and The Who followed, among others, as well as appearances at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park.

There is now a fresh reason for the Munich date: "Road to Freedom" is due out on 6 November - eleven days before the show. The next single, "I Can Hardly Wait", has been announced for 2 October. Back in June, The Last Internationale released their version of Grand Funk Railroad's anti-war song "People, Let's Stop the War". The title leaves little room for misunderstanding.

They last played Munich on 5 April 2023 at the Backstage Club. A good three and a half years later, the Hansa 39 is now on the tour schedule. I'm particularly curious to see how the new material holds its own between songs like "Hard Times", "Wanted Man" and "Soul on Fire".
